All samples are tested twice for absolute accuracy.
Easily find out if you are related as Fraternal or Identical Twins.
This DNA Twin Zygosity Test (Private Home Kit) is used to determine whether a pair of twins are Fraternal Twins or Identical Twins. All lab fees and return shipping costs are included.
What is the difference between Fraternal and Identical Twins?
Fraternal twins and identical twins differ in their genetic makeup. Fraternal twins are formed when two separate eggs are fertilized by two separate sperm and go on to develop into two separate embryos. Therefore, fraternal twins are genetically similar as regular siblings and usually share about 50% of their genetic material. They are also known as heterozygotic twins.
Identical twins are formed when a single fertilized egg splits into two embryos. These twins share 100% of their genetic material and are, therefore, genetically identical. They are also known as monozygotic twins.

What happens at the Lab?
During a DNA Twin Zygosity Test, a buccal (mouth) swab sample is collected from each Twin. The parents do not need to be tested.
This sample contains cells, and most of the cells in our body contain a full set of genetic information in the form of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). A person’s DNA represents a “genetic blueprint”.
At the laboratory, the DNA is extracted from the cell and specific regions of the DNA are amplified by a process known as PCR (polymerase chain reaction). Our test analyzes 16 to 27 of these specific regions, called short tandem repeats (STRs). STRs are regions of DNA in which a short DNA sequence is repeated multiple times.
The DNA pattern of one twin is compared to the other, and a determination is made on whether they are genetically identical (monozygotic) or fraternal (heterozygotic) twins. When you receive your results report, if both twins have the same DNA profile, they are considered to be identical twins.

FAQ
Answers to commonly asked questions about this test.
In the event that the two parties being tested live in different cities, we can divide the kit accordingly and dispatch its components to separate addresses. Given that the components of the paternity kit share a unique barcode, the samples will still be processed together upon reaching the laboratory. To request a split kit, simply include the following details in the comments section of the order form during checkout.
“Please split this kit. Send the first twin’s portion of the kit to (first twin’s name and shipping address), and send the second twin’s portion of the kit to (second twin’s name and shipping address).”
An additional shipping fee of $10 will be automatically applied for each extra address within the US. Split kits will be sent out using USPS First Class Package Service.
Absolutely, our DNA Twin Tests are 100% accurate and will give you a conclusive result of either fraternal or identical twins.

Once collected, the dry samples should be viable for up to 3 months. It is best to send the completed swabs as soon as possible within this 3 month window and to ensure that the swabs have dried out prior to sealing them in the included envelopes.
Our DNA Twin Test samples are collected using buccal swabs. These are painless, easy-to-use swabs that gently rub against the inside of the mouth. The sample collection process can be completed in just a few minutes.
Your results will be conveniently delivered through our online portal. Upon receiving your kit, you will receive instructions to activate it online, granting you access to live test tracking and immediate access to your results as soon as they are ready.
